One Hundred Years of Solitude

By Gabriel García Márquez
Why I Picked It Up / How It Read
I picked up this book as a part of a book club, and also because it was time I started reading Latin American literature. I enjoyed the book very much.
What I Took Away
- I'm not one to keep reading too much into fiction, I just enjoy the story, language, metaphors, and maybe real-life parallels if they exist.
- I liked this genre of magical realism, where magical events happen and characters barely react to it as if it were the norm, like when the bassinet started levitating. While still being impressed by ordinary things like magnets if they were magic!
- Some of the metaphors were surprisingly good and made me chuckle.
- I'll definitely read more books by Márquez
