Why I Picked It Up / How It Read

I picked up this book as a part of a book club. It was a light read but the language was too romantic and flowery for my taste.

What I Took Away

• The second half of the book got me curious about some Mexican history, and honestly, the little side research I did was the only thing I enjoyed relating to this book
• I can't say I understood anything from the romantic blabbering of the first half, I couldn't say what the author was trying to say, except describing the Mexican people with some generic adjectives that could easily fit other groups.
• I really disliked the author's insistence and repetition that the Mexican character is complicated; as if there's any population or a group of people on Earth that don't have a unique complicated character!
